Tips for First-Time Car Buyers in North Dakota

Car Buying Process

Is it your first time buying a vehicle?  It may seem like an overwhelming process, but it’s easier than you may think.   Here are some tips to help get you started.

There are many misconceptions about buying a new car:

Purchasing a new vehicle will inevitably be a “pressure filled” experience.

Here at Rydell we believe that buying a new vehicle is supposed to be a fun, exciting and memorable experience. There are a few ways Rydell makes this possible.  One of the ways we do this is we have no haggle pricing. What does this mean for our customers?  It means the price tag on the vehicle is the price you will pay, no negotiating necessary.

You should finance through your own personal bank.

While financing through your own bank may be an option, we work with dozens of banks to ensure you get the best interest rate possible upon approved credit.  We make the buying process nearly seamless, as we will work with the banks on your behalf to finance your vehicle.  It’s never been easier to buy or lease a vehicle.

When shopping at a dealership, you can expect an upsell.

Upsell simply means the salesperson will try to sell you something more expensive than what you need. Our sales staff isn’t paid on commission, unlike many other dealerships, which means our team is genuinely interested in getting you the vehicle that you want.  There is no incentive for our sales staff to upsell our customers, as they would not receive additional compensation for selling a more expensive vehicle.  This is another great way Rydell takes the pressure out of the car buying experience.

Here is what you can expect when shopping at Rydell:

An open, honest conversation about what type of vehicle you wish to purchase.  What wants, needs, concerns, or general questions do you have?  Our sales staff will take the time to get to know you, and your expectations about the car buying process.  You can expect a low stress and pressure free environment.  We truly want you to love what you drive, and we’ll do everything we can to make that a reality.

What are my options when buying a vehicle?

There are generally three ways you can purchase a vehicle.  You can buy new, used, or lease.  Each option has its benefits, and it is entirely up to the customer to decide which option suites them best.  Here are some advantages to each of these option:

Buying New

Made to order – By purchasing a new vehicle you have control over what features come in your car, truck, or SUV.  You can choose exactly what you want your vehicle to be equipped with, whether you want all luxury features or simply the basics.  Being able to customize your vehicle is a huge advantage to buying new.

Factory warranty – New vehicles come with a warranty policy. This means if something breaks down or stops working in your vehicle, you can have it fixed free of charge if your warranty is still valid.

Latest technology- Each year car manufacturers come out with new technology for their vehicles.  Buying new means you will have the option of including the newest advances in technology into your vehicle.

Safety features- Technology isn’t the only category that has made incredible advancements in the last few years.  Safety features are also more advanced and reliable than ever before.  By purchasing a new vehicle, you can ensure that you and your family have the highest standard of safety on the market.

Buying Used

Less expensive- Used cars are typically less expensive than new vehicles due to depreciation, mileage, and potential wear and tear.  Purchasing a used vehicle is a great option for someone who wants to drive a nice vehicle, without paying that new car price.

Less depreciation – When you buy a new vehicle at sticker price, it loses a considerable amount of value once it’s driven off the lot.  Used vehicles on the other hand have already realized that depreciation.  This factor alone is a good reason to explore used vehicles, and could potentially save you money in the long run.

Less sales tax- Sales tax is based off of the total price of the vehicle.  By purchasing a used vehicle you will not only pay less for the car, but you will also pay less sales tax.

Lower insurance rates – Car insurance rates are based on several factors, one of them being the price of the vehicle being insured.  Since used cars typically have less value than new ones, the insurance rate will be less as well.

Leasing

Lower payments – Leasing gives you the opportunity to drive a new vehicle at much lower payments. People typically lease vehicles because the payments are lower than buying, and they have the flexibility to turn the vehicle back in once the lease is up.

Only committed to three years of payments- If you are unsure about purchasing a new vehicle, and aren’t interested in buying used, then leasing could be a great option for you.  You’re only locked in for three years of payments, instead of the typical five or six year loan associated with buying new.

Factory warranty- Factory warranty gives you peace of mind in the event that your vehicle experiences any technical issues.  Factory warranties cover any unexpected repairs that happen to your vehicle within the life of warranty.

Drive new more often- Since most lease contracts only last three years, you have the option to lease a brand new vehicle every three years.  Leasing is a great way to upgrade your car every few years without the trouble of constantly buying and selling vehicles.

No maintenance required- Leasing a vehicle is a great option for someone who doesn’t want to worry about the cost associated with vehicle repairs, because routine maintenance is usually covered under leasing conditions.

Which is right for you?

Still unsure of which of these options is best for you?  The car buying process doesn’t have to be complicated.  We believe that buying a vehicle should be exciting and stress-free.  Come on down to Rydell today and speak with our helpful sales staff.  We’ll answer any questions you may have, and help you find something that fits both your lifestyle and budget.
